Dr John Sutherland

Christchurch Chiropractor at Body Balance

Dr John Sutherland, Christchurch ChiropractorI first encountered chiropractic when I was 20 due to rugby injuries.  Frustrated by my lack of improvement with medicine and physiotherapy I decided to see a Chiropractor.  The results were astoundingly quick and successful. Within a few visits I was feeling less pain, had better range of motion and seemed to have more energy.  I was actually finishing up my Bachelor of Science in physiology at the time and was actually enrolled to start in physiotherapy.  But I decided that the hands-on approach of chiropractic was much more appealing. This was one of the best decisions I ever made.

Initially, I did make the mistake of only linking chiropractic to helping with sporting injuries and rehabilitation because that was my only experience.  Now I know the truth: chiropractic can help liberate nerves suffering from interference.  This makes the nervous system work better.  The nervous system is the main communication link between the brain and the body.  Removing interferences can aid in the treatment and prevention of a wide variety of different conditions.

My qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in physiology from Otago University and a Bachelor of Chiropractic from the New Zealand College of Chiropractic.  I have experience in over twenty practices both here and in Ireland. This gives me a vast amount of experience in dealing with different problems and different techniques to fix the problem.

My background in nutrition and sports-specific nutrition at university was furthered by studying Applied Kinesiology - a specification of chiropractic involving functional neurology.  Applied Kinesiology can gather information specific to a patients nutritional and health status by muscle testing. As such it can be used by patients to help manage or treat chronic problems.  I'm passionate about learning and continue to enhance my knowledge with technique and nutritional seminars held throughout the year.

Optimal health is very important to me.  I live and breathe what I preach.  I'm careful about my own health as too often I see the results of not looking after yourself. Health is a privilege that must be earned, it is not a right and should not be taken for granted.  My personal interests are snow skiing (one of the reasons I love living here!), water sports, keeping fit and socialising with friends.  I love my job and being able to make a difference in the lives of my patients.

Improving your health is about teamwork between the you and your chiropractor.  You can best achieve your goals by asking a lot of questions and being an active participant in your your care plan.  In this way you'll learn more about your body, how it functions and how to get the best performance from it.  My appointment spaces at Body Balance allow enough time for me to pass on the knowledge I have to help you achieve your goals.  If you have any questions about your health you are welcome to email me or call Chch 386 1810.

I look forward to hearing from you!
