Slipped Discs and Chiropractic Care
This is a layman’s term used to describe a disc problem. The disc can’t actually slip. There are 3 degrees of disc problem ranging from mild to severe:
Disc herniation:the disc is wedged on one side and this can affect the nerves that exit the spine at that level as they have less space and will not function to their optimum ability
Disc protrusion:the ropey outer fibres of the disc are torn, the disc bulges and the local inflammation can irritate the nerve resulting in local pain and radicular symptoms as the nerve is put under pressure
Disc prolapse:the outer fibres are completely torn and the soft gel-like centre of the disc spills out. The nerve is put under a lot of pressure. Pain is severe.
Chiropractic can help in all 3 of the above cases as it focuses on restoring normal motion and reducing nerve pressure. |
